This article summarizes characteristics of effective instructional technology within the context of software development at the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy. Included are interaction, feedback, learner control, learner-controlled accessories, directions and help, consistency, organization, graphics, assessment and record-keeping, customization, and instructor's manual. References are given.
