Abstract:
The Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) studied changes in the world of work and implications of those changes for learning. The Commission identified competencies which high school students needed to be a part of a high performance economy characterized by high-skills, high-wage employment. This document includes six articles that give education and training practitioners practical suggestions for applying SCANS in classroom and workplace. Model programs are described, and the topics of limited English proficient students, use of technology, and assessment are addressed.
