Preparation

  1. Check the website to ensure it is not blocked at your site.
  2. Read through the lesson plan.
  3. Print and make copies of any handouts.
  4. Practice using the site to make your own meme and use as an example so that students.

How-To

To use the ImgFlip meme generator, follow the following steps:

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://imgflip.com/memegenerator. A random image is displayed.
  2. Select "Upload new template" to upload an image or to paste in the URL for an online image. Explain to students that if they select the box "Allow this template to be shared publicly," then the image they upload will be available in the gallery of the site for anyone to use, and they will most likely not want to do this with personal photos. Alternatively, enter a keyword in the "Search all memes" box to use images from the site. Scroll to see options.
  3. The image can be rotated by using the curved arrow above the meme preview area. The spacing button will add a text box area, which, when selected, can be placed at top, bottom, or both, and can be recolored and resized.
  4. Select "Add Image" above the preview box to add another image and/or add stickers in the site gallery.
  5. To the right, enter top and/or bottom text and select text color and text outline color. Select the gear icon to choose font and text formatting (all caps, bold, italic, font size, text alignment, etc.).
  6. Select effect to choose image adjustments (blur, grayscale, brightness, etc.).
7. When the meme is complete, select "Generate Meme." There are social media sharing and email sharing options as well as a URL to the meme and an embed (html) code.
