Leading adult education through support for and the effective application of technology.

October 2020

FROM THE DIRECTOR, RENEE COLLINS

October makes us think of Halloween, apple pies, trips to the pumpkin patch, and cooler weather. For the WIOA II grantees among us, it also means Quarter 1 reports are due. OTAN, as a WIOA II funded state leadership project, is no exception to quarterly reports. Since July 1, OTAN's training team has provided 42 online webinars or workshops with more than 1,335 attendees and 34 OTAN Office Hours supporting and guiding teachers with ed tech tools to help their students. OTAN has reinstated virtual face-to-face trainings for consortia and agencies aligned to agency needs. Twelve agencies and 30 participants have been selected to participate in the highly competitive third Digital Leadership Academy Cohort (DLAC) that assists teams of administrators and teachers to design and implement a technology and/or distance learning goal over a two-year period. The popular Technology and Distance Learning Symposium will be held virtually March 3-5, 2021. Mark your calendars!

OTAN's development and programming team has been just as productive. Staff are building a website to act as a repository for EL Civics curriculum and they have just opened the California Adult Education Online Application and Reporting (OAR) site for the new fiscal year. Many of you will have recently received your GAN via this portal. I share all this to highlight OTAN's work, but to also encourage you and your staff to engage with OTAN for all your ed tech, distance/ blended learning, and online collaboration needs.

OTAN has been actively working to provide technical support and training for the California Adult Education Program (CAEP) Summit from October 26-29. There will be eight program strands and 66 sessions, including a strand for technology and distance learning. Register on the CAEP website. See you there!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - PLAN AHEAD!

Did you know OTAN provides FREE professional development workshops to help Adult Educators integrate technology?

Think about scheduling OTAN Professional Development in the 2020-2021 school year. With a wide variety of technology topics from which to choose, OTAN training staff will present for any WIOA-funded adult education program in California either online or face-to-face with a computer lab or devices connected to the Internet. (Note that face-to-face trainings will be scheduled when it is safe and OTAN staff are free to travel.)

All OTAN's workshops are provided at no cost!

Each session is hands-on - everyone will learn new skills related to technology or using technology that they can use in their adult education class or program. And all OTAN online or face-to-face workshops can be tailored to fit the needs of the requesting program. Select the links to see a list of the current online or face-to-face workshops and descriptions. If you don't see a workshop that is exactly what you need, contact OTAN - we'll work together to create a training that's best for you and your staff!

Need more information? Contact OTAN training staff anytime by phone at 916-228-2580 or by email at support@otan.us
