Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 4/6

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are continuing to teach and support their learners.

• OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

• On Monday at 10:00am, Melinda Holt and Debbie Jensen will present Google Classroom for Adult Education, Part 2. This workshop is a continuation of Google Classroom, Part 1 and will cover intermediate and advanced Google Classroom topics. • On Monday at 2:00pm, Jeff Goumas will present Math Resources in Minutes! Introducing SkillBlox. SkillBlox is a free, first-of-its-kind learning plan generation tool. Participants will learn the basics of how to create an account, manage resources within SkillBlox, and begin creating easy-to-share, standards-aligned learning plans with learners! • On Tuesday at 10:00, Alisa Takeuchi will present Digital Resources for Beginning ESL Students. This presentation will introduce teachers of Beginning ESL students to websites that are free and user friendly and demonstrate possible ways to communicate the various resources to their students remotely. • On Tuesday at 1:00pm, CASAS and OTAN will present Strategies for Delivering DL Virtually. Team members from OTAN and CASAS will present strategies and considerations for how teachers can deliver instruction at a distance (and reporting Distance Learners through TOPSpro Enterprise). • On Wednesday at 10:00am, Anthony Burik will present Introduction to Moodle, Part 1. This workshop will introduce you to the Moodle system and basic functions to assist you in creating a course website and/or learning how to manage an online class. • On Wednesday at 1:00pm, Jennifer Gagliardi will present Resources for Online Citizenship Classes. This online webinar will demonstrate a boiler plate Citizenship lesson plan for online teaching and identify free online Citizenship resources. • On Thursday at 10:00am, Anthony Burik will present Introduction to Moodle, Part 2. This workshop is a continuation where participants will be introduced to more functions of the Moodle LMS. You can sign up for this webinar at the California Adult Education Training Calendar.

• On Thursday at 1:00pm, CASAS will present Considerations When Implementing Distance Learning. This session looks at some of the key issues - such as pre- and post-test assessment, determining how to count instructional hours, and recording this activity in TOPSPro Enterprise - that have presented challenges for agencies implementing distance learning. • On Friday at 9:00am, Yescenia Delgado will present Creating Easy Teaching Videos Using Microsoft PowerPoint. Learn how to easily create a video that can be used to present content and then export as a video which can then be shared with students. • On Friday at 1:00pm, Kevin Jordan will present Effective Cell Phone Usage in the Classroom. Participants will be shown how to effectively use the cell phone in the classroom, not only with students, but in order to be more effective and efficient with their time. Participants can teach their students content as well as Digital Literacy to include posting to a website, email, and effective web usage to forward learning.
