At OTAN, we always try to stay on top of the latest tech trends and how they might impact adult education. According to a recent McKinsey study, these are the top ten tech trends they have identified that companies should pay attention to, important for adult education as we think about how to prepare students for the future of work. (And for an article that summarizes the McKinsey study, read this blog post from Irving Wladawsky-Berger.)

Here are the top seven industry-agnostic tech trends:

  • Next-level process automation and virtualization
  • Future of connectivity
  • Distributed infrastructure
  • Next-generation computing
  • Applied AI (artificial intelligence)
  • Future of programming
  • Trust architecture

Here are the top three industry-specific tech trends:

  • The Bio (or biological science) Revolution
  • Next-generation materials
  • Future of clean technologies

The McKinsey study provides background on each trend, why the trend matters, how the trend will disrupt work, examples of how the trend applies in different industries, and the technologies behind the trend.
