Summer is often the season for educators to catch their breath after a long school year and take some time to learn and build up their skills for the next school year. We might have a pile of print and digital books and papers just waiting to be read. A popular way to continue our learning, not just for teachers but for other professionals, is through the medium of podcasts.
If you're not already listening to podcasts for work or pleasure, a good place to start (and one more thing to read!) is the TeacherCast Website External Link Icon opens in new window or tab and a recent article on the site, What Do Teachers Look For When Listening To Educational Podcasts External Link Icon opens in new window or tab. Starting with a podcast interview with educator Michael Mohammad hosted by Jeff Bradbury, the article covers a guide to podcasts, what teachers look for in educational podcasts (for example, topics, length of time, schedule of episodes, and show notes), using podcasts for professional development, and some educational podcasts for teachers to consider following. Once you've had a chance to listen to the interview and explore the linked resources, the TeacherCast website has additional resources External Link Icon opens in new window or tab on getting started with podcasts on your own and podcasts to follow.
As you're taking time (hopefully!) to rejuvenate this summer and think about enhancing your instructional practice for the coming school year, spend some time exploring the possibilities of podcasts for yourself and your students.
