Devices and Operating Systems Sessions / Series
Description
These sessions can be requested and schedule for specific devices (i.e, Chrombooks, Macbooks, Desktops, etc.) or operating systems (i.e., ChromeOS, MacOS, Win11, etc).
Topics can include finding and changing settings, keyboard shortcuts, troubleshooting wifi, projection options, audio setup and settings, and installation tips and tricks. Workshop session require a three hour minimum and devices must be provided by the requesting agency, Presentations sessions require at least a 90 minutes where BYOD announcements are made by the requestor and virtual session lengths are dependent upon platform and devices.
OTAN training staff will discuss specific topics with requesting agencies during the scheduling process and may provide peripheral devices but will not provide devices for use during the session. All devices must be provided by the scheduling agency.
Current titles and short descriptions include but are not limited to:
Basics of Using a MacBook in Adult Education*: designed to guide attendees through the basics of using a Macbook as a teacher. Topics may include but are not limited to: brief description of macOS, location of settings and preferences for WiFi, audio and volume controls, camera enabling, quick key options (i.e. open, quit, screenshots, etc.), trackpad tips, the Dock, and more as time allows.
Chromebooks for Adult Education*: helps teachers and support staff identify Chromebook features such as the webcam, microphone, and keyboard shortcuts. Also discusses the OS (Chrome) and its use outside of the Chromebook on any platform as a browser. Participants will be guided to recognize, distinguish, install, and use apps, extensions, and themes as well as find each in the Google Play and Chrome Web
iPads in Adult Education: participants are guided through discussion and discovery on their iPads so that they can be successfully used in the classroom.
Deliver Instruction Anywhere - RACHEL: showcases how using a RACHEL device can help to deliver educational content to learners in these situations. RACHEL (Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning) provides a “copy of the internet” through free Open Educational Resources curated from across the web and made available for download to use offline.
Tech Troubleshooting for Online: a virtual session that shows how to become more comfortable with their equipment, and learn different ways of troubleshooting technology when in an online setting. Topics may include but are not limited to: connecting a device to the internet, setting up and sharing during an online meeting/class, connecting devices via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and tech tips to try when having connectivity video/audio issues.
Tech Troubleshooting in the Classroom: allows participants to become comfortable with the equipment they use at their location. Hands-on activities include different ways of troubleshooting technology, connecting equipment (i.e, projection system to laptop) differences between adapters and what they can do, and troubleshooting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Other topics can be added upon request.
Using Chromebooks in Beginning ESL Classes: demonstrates the steps of introducing and getting ESL students to use Chromebooks. Topics include creating a Google account, showing students Google apps and extensions, and the power of the Cloud using a Chromebook.
Windows 10 Tips: covers features and settings of Windows 10 to assist the adult education teacher become more productive and efficient. Depending on requests, topics may include but are not limited to: transitioning from later versions of Windows or other Operating Systems to Win10, the layout of Windows 10, finding and opening apps, using Cortana as an assistant, how to change basic settings and more.

PREREQUISITES
All participants must have basic computer skills and a valid email address. Additional requirements may apply depending on the session.

OTAN Certificates of Attendance are awarded only for workshop sessions to those that are pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.
