TDLS 2023 - Intentional Selection of Technology Tools for the Classroom

TDLS

Digital literacy impacts both accessibility and equity for our students. In the classroom, technology should be used for a specific purpose so that students can transfer digital literacy skills to the real world. Incorporating technology into instruction is important, but it needs to align with the purpose of the lesson. Will the tool help the student meet the course objective and acquire the skills they need? In this session, presenters will talk about contextualizing digital literacy so that the students can more effectively navigate community resources while also having a richer learning experience in class. During the session, presenters will address different purposes for using technology including context, language skills addressed, digital skills addressed, real-life application, and ease of use. They will highlight different tools that fit specific purposes and provide opportunities for the participants to interact with them.
