TDLS 2023 - Engaging Conversation and Pronunciation Activities in Zoom

TDLS

A challenge for many online and HyFlex faculty is lack of student participation in Zoom. Many of us have had the experience of calling on a student who doesn’t respond or entering a breakout room where all students are silent. How do we encourage students to participate more online? The key is to create a comfortable, interactive, and stimulating environment with little downtime. In this session we will share several online resources that can be used in conjunction with fun and engaging activities we’ve developed to spark and continue conversation. Participants will learn how to use Zoom more effectively to better manage class discussions and interactions. The presenters have been teaching online and hybrid ESL since before the pandemic and have extensive experience using Zoom and Canvas to engage students.
