TDLS 2023 - Rock Your World: AI in AE Saves Teachers Time

TDLS

ChatGPT-3 was launched on November 30, and while there are limitations, the possibilities for using this tool as an instructional resource are endless. Dall•E-2 is another AI system that can create images and art from a description in natural language. We will explain what ChatGPT and Dall•E are and explain and demonstrate ways to use them to generate lesson content. A major concern is how students will use this tool. Will ChatGPT cause rampant cheating and plagiarism? We will end with ways instructors can modify their teaching of writing to avoid such issues and how to teach students about ChatGPT and use it effectively, tempering its usefulness with its limitations. When used effectively, ChatGPT and other AI tools can be leveraged to help teachers save time, come up with new ideas, create teaching materials, and provide a valuable teaching and learning resource for both teachers and students. We will provide resources and AI tools that serve a variety of purposes for exploration.
