Activity Description

America Before

Students view and analyze excerpts from historian Charles C. Mann's lecture based on his book 1491: New Revelations of the Americas before Columbus. Students investigate recent historical and archaeological evidence suggesting that the Americas were home to large, complex, and highly developed societies before the arrival of Europeans. Students examine how disease, colonization, and historical narratives shaped perceptions of Indigenous peoples and evaluate how new evidence can change our understanding of history.

Using evidence from the lecture.

Research Extension
