Staying current requires reading professional journals and research. What educator has time for that? The sheer volume of innovative technologies and correlating research makes keeping up nearly impossible. One of the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is they “offer a solution to summarizing lengthy, complex articles into concise overviews by highlighting just the key points.”
AI summarization is already “widely used by researchers and academics in STEAM fields to effectively conduct literature reviews.” This same technology can assist educators with saving time and keeping current. Additionally, with educators keeping current with new research, these “condensed research overviews” can help accelerate learning and keep course content fresh.” Importantly, these tools also work in multiple languages too, so people can access research written in “foreign language journals as well.”
- Claude.ai This tool summarized a 23-page article into “five multifaceted key points and wrote a one paragraph summary at the end.”
- SciSummary.com The free version is limited. But the premium version “allows users to summarize multiple papers (up to 25) at once.”
- AI Summarizer Best for short web-based articles and blog posts. The free version is limited to “1500 words but does seem to do a good job.”
- Google Bard This developing technology requires more patience. “When asked to outline key points in an article and expand on each, it was able to do so, but it did require two additional prompts.”
- Sassbook's AI Summarizer The free version summarizes up to “6,250 characters, or about two and a half pages.” The paid version allows “Up to 20 pages to be summarized.” Best used for presentations.
- Bing Chat “Summarizes articles available on the internet or pasted into its interface.”
- Any Summary This tool specifically summarizes a “range of document types, including text, audio, and video.” There are options for a “tweet, a sarcastic response, and even a song.”
- Gist AI This Chrome extension ties to ChatGPT and reviews websites, YouTube videos, or PDF articles.
