Upcoming OTAN Activities to Support Adult Educators – Week of 9/8

OTAN has scheduled a number of online webinars and Office Hours for our adult education colleagues who are teaching and supporting their learners remotely. (All times below are PDT.)

• OTAN Office Hours provide an opportunity to ask more detailed questions and get support on specific tools to use with students. You can sign up for these OTAN Office Hours at the California Adult Education Training Calendar:

• Tuesday, September 8 from 4:00 to 5:00pm

• Thursday, September 10 from 10:00 to 11:00am

• On Thursday at 1:00pm, CASAS, CALPRO, and OTAN will present Increasing Measurable Skill Gains through Distance Learning. This session will explore the engagement and persistence components that support measurable skills gains: Engagement, Technology, and Data. Engagement activities in our virtual learning environments require targeted technology integration, and a means to accurately capture data to prove and support their effectiveness. Join this session to hear more about engagement indicators, technology tools to support engagement, and how to collect data to capture these activities. • On Friday at 10:00am, Blair Roy and Susan Coulter will host Office Hours for Maximizing Moodle. The many features and resources available in Moodle (which OTAN upgraded over the summer) can be daunting to new users. Join us to get one-on-one support, help, suggestions and just plain old encouragement in using Moodle with learners. Attending teachers will drive the session with their questions and needs. • On Friday at 1:00pm, Diana Vera-Alba will present the September OTAN Tech Talk, Liquid Syllabus. "Liquid" content refers to web content that is highly shareable. Content that is easy to share becomes easy to promote online, on your school's class schedule, or on social media. A Liquid Syllabus is web content that "humanizes" your material and becomes an engaging tool for your students.
