Open Education Resources (OER) Sessions / Series

Description

There are many free, customizable, and editable resources for adult educators and their learners called Open Educational Resources (OERs). By using OERs in the classroom and online, teachers and agencies can save money, revise and refresh curriculum, and give learners an opportunity to customize their learning.

The titles below are listed in a progressive scaffolding order for professional development sessions. Where each title can be scheduled as a stand-alone session, it is highly recommended that, for hands-on workshops, "OER's 101 - Basics" has been attended before any other OER session is scheduled.

Titles and short descriptions for sessions include but are not limited to:

*Open Educational Resources (OERs) 101 - Basics:  provides an introduction the basics of Open Educational Resources (OERs). Participants will get an introduction to the basics of OERs, what are they, how they can be found, and how to attribute these resources.

Using CC Licenses and CC Licensed Works: Creative Commons licenses and the 5 R's that makeup OERs will be discussed. Participants will learn the basics of creating OERs, how to correctly attribute and license their own works, and insights on searching techniques to find credible resources.

*Open Educational Resources 102 - Intermediate: explores how OERs can contribute to educational equity, diversity, and inclusion in tthe classroom.

CC Licenses, Public Domain, and Copyright: discusses and shows how OERs are different from free resources available on the Internet. Topics will include Creative Commons licenses, public domain, and copyright.

Finding and Curating OERs: topics include licensing original works (resources), advantages of creating accounts on OER repositories, and how to share licensed resources on OER Repositories.

*Open Educational Resources 103 - Advanced: shows how to evaluate and adopt OERs into LMS (learning management system) courses like Canvas.
