Video in Adult Education Sessions

Description

Remote learning and the use of video in the classroom were put front and center in 2022 (remember the pandemic?) Educators found that using video improves the blended learning experience, allows for customizable learning, supports multimodal learning, and gives students the ability to review and repeat as often as they like.

Adult education programs can also build accessible knowledge-bases in the form of Youtube channels or even streaming videos on their own network servers. The use of video also enhances accessibility - videos are available 24/7 on almost any device.

The sessions in this series will teach adult educators how to: create videos, edit videos, and share videos in a variety of ways.

Titles and short descriptions include but are not limited to:

Creating and Using Online Videos in Instruction: discusses the importance of creating videos to use in the classroom and as to communicate with students . Topics include using available online tools to create videos, creating quick mini-tutorials as well as in-depth step-by-step instruction, and communicating with students via video to correct or provide feedback on assignments. Guided practice using one of the many online video creators will be available for workshop sessions and will be determined by OTAN training staff and the requesting site.

Teaching with Youtube: will walk teachers through the process of searching effectively on Youtube (not all videos are created equal), subscribing to video channels, curating videos for classes, and creating and sharing playlists with students and colleagues.

Using Youtube Effectively in Adult Education: is a customizable session where topics are selected by the requesting agency. Topics can include but are not limited to: setting up a Youtube account, searching for/finding videos to share with students, creating and building strong playlists for adult learners, uploading videos and privacy settings, adding and editing captions, creating a personal or program YouTube channels, identifying appropriate channel settings, and managing a video channel.

PREREQUISITES

All participants must have basic computer skills and a valid email address. Additional requirements may apply depending on the session and apps explored.

OTAN Certificates of Attendance are awarded only for workshop sessions to those that are pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.
