Internet, Account, and Digital Safety Sessions / Series

Description

Being “always on the grid” can be great! The Internet helps teachers and students more easily connect and enhances learning. By practicing Internet safety, we can lessen or prevent the risks that are inherently involved with using digital devices, apps, and services. Teachers and students alike need to know how to protect themselves when using digital devices online.

These sessions will address Internet, account, and digital safety on multiple platforms using different apps. Specific devices and platforms may be requested for workshop sessions. Topics may also be interchangeable to different titles. For example social media topics, within Online Privacy, Practice, and Presence, could be added to Digital Citizenship for Adult Education.

Titles and short descriptions of sessions include but are not limited to:

Digital Citizenship for Adult Education: strategies are covered to assist teachers empower students to behave safely, participate responsibly, and think critically, no matter what technologies are being used. Topics may include but are not limited to: privacy and security, digital reputation, intellectual property, information literacy, and other topics as time allows and questions are answered

Google Account Management and Safety: can be scheduled as 3-4 separate sessions where topics can grouped including (but not limited to): creating different accounts, account settings and safety, sharing between accounts, password management, Gmail safety, filters in Gmail, security timeline, two-factor and multi-factor account logon.

Internet and Digital Safety Awareness: covers how to keep teachers and learners safe when using devices on the Internet.Topics may include, online or web presence, detecting scams, and device settings to enhance safety.

Online Privacy, Practice, and Presence: covers privacy settings on different social media platforms. Strategies to become safe and confident "citizens of the Web" will be covered as well as exploring the different settings on applications like email, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Twitter

PREREQUISITES

All participants must have basic computer skills and a valid email address. Additional requirements may apply depending on the session and apps explored.

OTAN Certificates of Attendance are awarded only for workshop sessions to those that are pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.
